The graphic is from The Soul of a Tree: A Woodworker’s Reflections. I bought a copy in 1982. It was another window I crawled through. At a time when I needed more. The trade was stale. Inspiration wasn’t coming. I’d been at the bench for almost a decade. And in need. This book. The story of a man. And his passion for work. For his work. And the materials. The tools. So much practice. Respect for craft. Respect in spades for what came before. It was a perfect storm of lore and information. Coming to me. Coming at me. I grabbed what I could. And ran with it. And how I stood at the bench changed. I needed this. Without it, I’m not here. And now I reflect. Decades later.
